2019 NFL Mock Draft 1.0: Defenders dominate throughout
I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect Tennessee to be 3-1 at this point, especially after Marcus Mariota went down with the elbow injury. I thought the injury would be the beginning of the end for a quarterback who hasn’t necessarily set the league on fire with his play. He didn’t throw a touchdown until week four and last year he threw more picks than touchdowns.
That being said, the Titans look solid all the way around in the first four games under Mike Vrabel. They’ve made up for the loss of Jonathan Cyprien by adding Kenny Vaccaro, and the secondary looks solid with Logan Ryan and Adoree’ Jackson at corner. There’s a solid balance of youth and veterans on both sides of the ball.
Looking at the offseason, Tennessee will have both Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan at the end of their deals. Orakpo will be 33 next summer and Morgan turns 30 in January. Harold Landry looks like an obvious replacement for one, but if the Titans can’t afford either Orakpo or Morgan thanks to Mariota’s $21 million fifth-year option, they’ll need another outside linebacker.
Ben Banogu transferred to TCU after a season at Louisiana Monroe and was an instant producer for the Horned Frogs. He’s turned out 11 sacks in 19 games since transferring and had 16.5 tackles for loss last year. He’s quick off the line with one mission, to take down the quarterback. He’s not effective against the run and can over pursue, but when things are going well for him, he’s a fearsome pass rusher.
