2019 NFL Mock Draft 1.0: Defenders dominate throughout
Washington looks solid all the way around, though the productions hasn’t been there on offense. Some of that comes thanks to Alex Smith being under center and being no better than average. Despite having just four passing touchdowns all season, the Redskins have a +20 point differential thanks to their defense, which allows less than 15 points per game.
The upside of Washington’s receiving corp is there with former first rounder Josh Doctson, Paul Richardson, Jamison Crowder, and tight end Jordan Reed. Unfortunately, Doctson has been somewhat of a bust coming out of TCU, Crowder is no more than a slot receiver, and Reed can’t stay healthy.
While Iowa tight end Noah Fant was an attractive option to give the Redskins a reliable number two tight end, they can’t pass on the talent of JJ Arcega-Whiteside.
All Arcega-Whiteside does is catch red zone touchdowns and win 50/50 balls for the Cardinals. He plays bigger than 6’3 and through five games he already has eight touchdowns, one short of his career high.
Giving Smith a legitimate number one receiver could give this Redskins offense a major boost. Having Arcega-Whiteside and a healthy Derrius Guice next year could mean big things as the Redskins fight for a division title.
