DT. Miami. Gerald Willis. 16. player. 13.

This pick presents a tough decision for the Los Angeles Chargers that will change their franchise one way or another. Philip Rivers will be 37-year-old in December and his contract expires after next season. Is it time to find the quarterback of the future in Los Angeles who can actually sit and learn behind a Hall of Famer, or should the Chargers try to give Rivers more playmakers to hopefully make a playoff run to cap off his career? Or, should they learn from the Giants and take a quarterback when they can?

Rivers has been excellent thus far completing 68% of his passes with 11 touchdowns to just two interceptions. He’s got Mike Williams, Melvin Gordon, Keenan Allen, and Tyrell Williams making plays, and the prospect of Hunter Henry returning is even more exciting for this offense.

The offensive line has protected Rivers well, allowing just five sacks through four games.

Defensively there are a lot of pieces to like, starting with Denzel Perryman, Joey Bosa, and Derwin James. However, adding Miami defensive tackle Gerald Willis to the inside of the defensive line could give the Chargers front seven some extra juice.

Both Brandon Mebane and Damion Square are free agents after this season, leaving Corey Liuget and Justin Jones on the inside. Willis is explosive off the line with quick hands that are always moving. Having him next to Liuget and Bosa could take the Chargers defense to the next level and help push the Chargers and Rivers forward.
