Baker Mayfield (Cleveland Browns):  C-

The energy that #1 pick Baker Mayfield has provided the Cleveland Browns franchise is impossible to ignore. His fiery attitude and gung-ho playing style are something this offense desperately needed. The fact they’ve put up 63 points in the past seven quarters since he replaced Tyrod Taylor in the lineup is not an accident. He moves the needle.

That said, his play to this point has been rather spotty. Not unexpected of a rookie. He’s thrown two touchdowns and two interceptions thus far with a 59.4 completion percentage. He still plays with a lot of that Oklahoma mentality, constantly looking for the big play. There are times that works but also times it won’t. He has to learn to when such chances are worth taking.

This isn’t something to worry about. He’ll learn as time goes on. Mayfield is not only talented but intelligent. People always underestimate his mentality capacity behind that bad boy image. The bigger question is whether Hue Jackson will be around beyond this season to see his development through to its hopeful conclusion. Not if the losses keep stacking.
