Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions):  B

It was a nightmare start for the season for Matthew Stafford as he threw four interceptions and looked completely out of sorts against the New York Jets. Thankfully he seems to have settled himself over the past three weeks with seven touchdowns and just one interception. It looks like he’s back to being the good quarterback he’s been for a long time now.

Yet it doesn’t change the reality. Detroit is 1-3 and at the bottom of the NFC North. Something they haven’t felt for a long time. Not much has changed for this team. Without Stafford they are nothing. The defense is average and that offense thrives only when the QB has the hot hand going. Kerryon Johnson may be changing that, but it’s early.

Stafford is going to go down in history as the best quarterback the Lions franchise has ever had. Yes, that includes Bobby Layne. At the same time, the organization will likely be lambasted for their failure to put a good enough team around him. Time is slowly running out as it looks like they haven’t gotten any better. He can’t work his magic forever.
