The first quarter of the season is done and it might be setting a record pace at quarterback. So what are the NFL grades at that position for every team?

Deciding that is conditioned on a number of factors. Of course the first is how well the player himself has played. Are his stats impressive but more importantly has he looked like the real deal on tape? One can’t just get lost in the numbers with things like this. However, it is important not to let team success override everything as can often be the case.

All things considered, this might be one of the richest eras for quarterbacks in NFL history. There’s a top layer of all-time greats and an astounding number of young bucks who are making their ascent into the limelight. So this might be a good way to chart their progress and see who might be ready to take a place on the mantle of elites.

Josh Rosen (Arizona Cardinals):  C+

This is one of those Instances where a young quarterback was handed difficult circumstances to start his career and is working hard to make the best of them. Josh Rosen got tossed into the fire right away, inserting into the week 3 game against the Chicago Bears in the 4th quarter. There he got quite the “Welcome to the NFL” moment by throwing a pick and suffering a game-ending sack.

Arizona didn’t waver. They made him the starter in place of the ineffective Sam Bradford against Seattle. If one were to look at the numbers alone, they’d think his performance was okay but nothing special. However, watch the tape. Rosen kept his calm under difficult conditions and actually delivered some impressive throws against a good defense.

If his kicker could’ve made a field goal to force overtime, it would’ve been a chance for him to earn his first win. Sadly it didn’t happen. That said Rosen has plenty to feel good about. He faced a divisional foe in his first game and didn’t flinch under the spotlight. Improvement should follow provided the Cardinals don’t try to rush him.
