Everything that happens in the NFL Draft is dependent on what other team’s draft boards look like and what their front offices do with them. Teams tend not to stray too terribly far from the best player available approach during the first two to three rounds.

As Benzschawel and Breeland constituted both ‘best player available’ and ‘position of need’ it is likely the Redskins first two selections were not too hotly contested and any war room fireworks were kept to a minimum. That most likely changes with their first of two picks in the third round.

There are certainly wildly different opinions as to the state of Washington’s wide receiver corp. Suffice to say, no one is going to argue that the Redskins have a clear number one receiver on the roster.

The argument among the scouts, coaches and other personnel executives will almost assuredly be related to the potential that currently resides on IR. I am a huge fan of Robert Davis. The 6’3 220 pounder is a tremendous blocker, has developed into a very solid route runner and his 4.44 forty yard dash time constitutes blazing speed considering his size.

Trey Quinn, someone I hoped the Redskins would take last year, looks like the answer to fill the depth chart.  His production in college was second to none but he also possesses some intangibles that make you want to believe in him.

Some are starting to question whether the same can be said of third year wide out Josh Doctson. Obviously, he is running out of time to prove he belongs on the team much less whether or not he was a first round bust.

All things considered I think cooler heads prevail and the Redskins take a wide receiver with their third pick. There should be some excellent receivers still on the board at this point as there may be only one or two picked in round one.

I like Deebo Samuel a lot. His game reminds me a little bit of DJ Moore, the Maryland Terrapin drafted in the first round by the Carolina Panthers last year. Samuel’s size, 5’11 215 could give some teams pause. If he slips to the Skins in the third round I’m hoping there is not too much hesitation by the team to grab him and take a step in rebuilding a receiving corp that as yet has not recovered from the departures of Pierre Garçon and DeSean Jackson.
