The Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked like budding contenders through their first two games after knocking off the Saints and Eagles.

It’s amazing how much things have changed in the past two weeks since. Suddenly this is a team that ran out of magic and was exposed as a flawed group. That includes at the top where their head coach Dirk Koetter even said after a devastating 48-10 loss to Chicago that everybody should be fired after such a performance.

He better be careful. He might be predicting his own demise at this point. Koetter was already on the hot seat coming into this season. The first two wins looked like he might be answering the bell in the eleventh hour, but things have reverted right back to where they were last season. Now the reasons are piling up for why he will likely be gone in 2019.

#5:  Momentum killer

One problem with Koetter is that he’s not the best at keeping his team on track. Multiple times his Bucs have had a chance to string together some streaks to get going but most of the time they’ve always faltered. He’s only had one winning streak to this point that went beyond two games. That was in 2016 when Tampa won five in a row.

Then they promptly lost two heartbreakers to Dallas and New Orleans to cost themselves a playoff spot. They haven’t won more than two-in-a-row since then. This speaks to a coach who may lack consistency in his mode of operation. Indeed Koetter tends to be driven by his moods at times. That can work at times but also leads to mistakes.
