Browns to Watch

Tyrod Taylor

Tyrod Taylor sat behind Joe Flacco for four seasons and made only 35 pass attempts with the Ravens. He was one of the league’s great mysteries upon hitting free agency in 2015, and since joining the Bills in 2015 he’s proven to be a capable NFL quarterback.

After going 22-20 and taking the Bills to the playoffs, Taylor was traded to Cleveland for a high third round pick this offseason. He remains the starter despite Baker Mayfield being drafted number one overall, but one bad game and the fans could be clamoring for Mayfield.

Taylor attempted 40 passes last week, a number inflated by a full overtime being played. he was also sacked seven times, the most in the league last week.

Myles Garrett

Last years number one overall pick out of Texas A&M looked like a star once again for the Browns. Myles Garrett sacked Ben Roethlisberger twice, forced two fumbles, deflected a pass, and made five tackles.

Garrett now faces a Saints offensive line that gave up only one sack last week to Tampa Bay. How much of that is a credit to the Saints versus the ineffectiveness of the Buccaneers pass rushers? Tampa Bay has bookend tackles with Terron Armstead and Ryan Ramczyk, so the Browns could be in trouble rushing the quarterback today.

Desmond Harrison

Speaking of rushing the quarterback, Cleveland is working to develop an undrafted free agent to play a position vacated by a future Hall of Famer. How’d that work last week? Cleveland allowed a league-high seven sacks.

Pro Football Focus (subscription required) rated Desmond Harrison 60th out of 62 eligible offensive tackles from last week. He must do better for the Browns to succeed this week and beyond.
