Vontae Davis may have quit on his team, but he had good reason

Cornerback Vontae Davis stunned the Buffalo Bills and the NFL world when Lorenzo Alexander told reporters that he’d actually decided to retire at halftime of the team’s 31-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. It certainly wasn’t the classiest move and is deserving of criticism. At the same time, if one were being honest? It’s hard to blame him for that choice.

The Bills are terrible. Like, really bad. It’s been two weeks and they’ve already been throttled by two teams who were themselves beaten in convincing fashion in their other games. Their defense, with or without Davis is bad and their offense might be even worse. It puts into the spotlight just how much talent they lost during the offseason, either due to retirement, free agency or trades.
