#9 Stanford takes out #22 USC

Even with a true freshman quarterback, the USC Trojans entered this early season contest against Stanford as the king of the mountain as the defending Pac-12 champions. However, it was Stanford that walked away from this matchup with the critical victory.

After being bogged down in the season opener against San Diego State, Stanford running back Bryce Love found the run lanes to be a little bigger this week with 136 yards rushing and a touchdown to help guide Stanford to a 17-3 win.

While Love is the team’s best player and a legitimate Heisman possibility, the story of the game goes to the Stanford defense that made a number of plays with four sacks, three turnovers, and holding USC to just 3.1 yards per carry.

Stanford will likely be major players in the Pac-12 conference race, especially in their Pac-12 North division. A win such as this is a great boost with road games at Oregon, Notre Dame, and Arizona State on the slate before mid-October.
