New York Jets Players to Watch

The Rookies

New York has a couple of rookies to keep an eye on, and the two biggest are the ones we mentioned earlier, Sam Darnold and Nate Shepherd.

Darnold, for obvious reasons, is the most intriguing player on the Jets going forward. Hopefully he can break the Jets quarterback curse and take them to the playoffs in the not so distant future.

Shepherd will be looked upon to bring pressure as the pressure of going from DII to the NFL builds.

I’m also interested in seeing what rookie tight end Chris Herndon can do given the Jets lack of receiving depth. He had a career-high four touchdowns for Miami last season before declaring.

Darron Lee

New York expected big things from linebacker Darron Lee when they drafted him 20th overall out of Ohio State in 2016. He’s come up short to expectations in many ways, and he’s been the target of former players.

Now is the time for Lee to prove he can be more than a bust, which is where he stands right now. Demario Davis left for New Orleans, leaving Lee with an opportunity to breakout. If he doesn’t the Jets will look elsewhere for production in 2019.

Morris Claiborne

The former Cowboys first round pick was our pick for the biggest Cowboys first round bust in the last decade. Injuries have hindered him early, but he saw success with the Jets last year. He starts opposite Trumaine Johnson this year with a big opportunity to prove he can start every week in the NFL.
