49ers to watch

Jimmy Garoppolo

He’s only started seven games in his NFL career, but Garoppolo is a perfect 7-0 in those games with the Patriots and 49ers. Obviously, he’s not going to stay perfect forever, but his success in limited playing time can’t be ignored.

Minnesota’s defense will be one of the toughest tests in Garoppolo’s young career. He knocked off the Jaguars defense last year throwing for 242 yards and a touchdown, but this Vikings defensive line might be better this year than the Jaguars last year with the addition of Sheldon Richardson.

Mike McGlinchey

First round picks have a big target on their back and as we mentioned earlier, the Vikings are going to aim their pressure towards the rookie right tackle. We’ll see how McGlinchey handles himself in his regular season debut, but hopefully the 49ers give him some extra help with Garrett Celek or Juszczyk.

Dante Pettis

San Francisco’s crop of receivers aren’t fantastic, but they’ve invested a lot into them. The 49ers traded up 15 spots to draft Pettis 44th overall, sending a third round pick to the Washington Redskins and getting back a fifth in order to draft the Washington Huskies product.

As mentioned earlier Pettis is quicker than fast but he has an extensive route tree and can contribute on special teams. He returned four punts for touchdowns last year and had nine returns for six points in college.
