Keys for Minnesota

Get Stefon Diggs the ball

Stefon Diggs has emerged as a star for the Minnesota Vikings after being a fifth-round pick out of Maryland. When he gets the ball in his hands, the Vikings are more than likely going to win the game.

Last year the Vikings were 6-0 when Diggs scored a touchdown and in his first three seasons, they’re 10-2 when he scores. It’s a simple equation the team just needs to execute.

Force San Francisco to run the ball

We mentioned the 49ers deficiencies at running back following McKinnon’s season-ending injury. Minnesota is so good on defense they can sit back and take the pass away from Garoppolo and force Shanahan to run the ball more with below-average backs.

The 49ers top weapon is Pierre Garcon, an 11-year vet, and Marquise Goodwin, who had a breakout year with the team in 2017. Rookie Dante Pettis will command attention with an extensive route tree but he’s more explosive and quicker than fast.

Attack Mike McGlinchey

San Francisco surprised some by taking Notre Dame offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey ninth-overall this year. He’s hulking at 6’8 but is a tremendous athlete with bench and quickness. We’ll see where his playing strength is at after working with NFL strength coaches.

McGlinchey will be starting at right tackle with a hefty test in Everson Griffin lining up against him. Minnesota needs to attack that right side and throw the rookie off his game early. Rattle him and welcome him to the NFL.
