Two of the highest-paid quarterbacks in football meet in week one

Kirk Cousins and Jimmy Garoppolo signed, at the time, two of the richest contracts ever given to a quarterback despite combining for one playoff start. After a midseason trade from New England Garoppolo went 5-0 with the 49ers and received $41.7 million guaranteed at signing before hitting free agency.

Cousins received a franchise tag from the Washington Redskins twice before finally hitting the open market. His patience earned him a fully-guaranteed three-year deal worth $84 million with a team that just played in the NFC Championship game.

Call this the “Money Bowl, “the “Overpaid Quarterback Bowl,” whatever you want, but it’s an intriguing week one matchup between two solid quarterbacks.

Minnesota also dipped into the free agent pool on defense with Sheldon Richardson and George Iloka, who was surprisingly cut during camp by Cincinnati. A very good defense just got even better with Richardson plugged into the middle of a defense line already touting Danielle Hunter, Everson Griffin, and Linval Joseph.

Never mind the fact that Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks are lurking right behind that line.

San Francisco still has some major questions on defense, but there is a lof young talent the team is waiting to see bust out.
