Stanford Players to Watch

Bryce Love, RB: Everything on offense begins and ends with Love and the run game. Which is a very interesting statement after last week’s outing against San Diego State where Love was held to 29 yards on 18 carries. Love is coming off a 2017 season in which he placed second in the Heisman race with 2,118 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns. The Cardinal offense showed last week that they can very well function enough even with Love having a down day but that may not be the case with the talented Trojans in town.

Alijah Holder, CB: The Stanford secondary lost a few notable names to the NFL this past draft which makes Holder the leader of the unit with 25 games under his belt. The senior corner sat out last week’s game against San Diego State with a leg injury but his presence will be greatly needed this week against USC’s underrated wide receiver group.

JJ Arcega-Whiteside, WR: The biggest weapon on the Stanford offense not named Bryce Love, Arcega-Whiteside is a mismatch as soon as he puts on his cleats. Last week, he tied a career-high in receptions with six but also added 226 yards and three touchdowns. At 6’3 225 lbs, Arcega-Whiteside has the look of a tight end but has displayed his skill set enough to show ability to be a solid receiver. With so much attention Love, it is easy to leave plenty of one-on-one matchups for the lumbering pass catcher.
