Keys for Pitt

Contain McSorley

How many times can we mention Penn State wanting Trace McSorley to run the ball more? It’s going to happen and everyone knows it.

Pitt gave up 60 rushing yards to Albany last week, but this is a whole different monster for the Panthers. The Nittany Lions rushed for 207 yards against App. State with McSorley picking up his aforementioned 53 yards.

One of Pitt’s linebackers will be the designated “spy” for McSorley throughout the game.

Attack the secondary

Penn State gave up 292 yards in the air to App. State after losing three defensive backs to the NFL Draft. John Reid missed all of last season with a torn ACL and Amani Oruwariye returns as a promising starter.

Tariq Castro-Fields and Lamont Wade are two young contributors who could become stars, but their inexperience could be taken advantage of.

With the weapons Pitt possesses on offense there’s a chance they can put up big points on Penn State at home. They have five redshirt seniors in their running back/receiver groups who can change the game.

Weaponize the Ffrench

Maurice Ffrench was named ACC Specialist of the Week after scoring two touchdowns against Albany. His 91-yard kick return touchdown was the first play of the season for Pitt and he capped off the first quarter for Pitt with a nine-year run.

Penn State’s issues on special teams were highlighted last week, so take advantage of them.
