Georgia at South Carolina: Keys, predictions, and players to watch
Georgia Players to Watch
Demetris Robertson (WR): After transferring from California, a lot is expected out of Demetris Robertson in 2018 as he gives Georgia their most talented wide receiver since A.J. Green. It’s going to take a while to get him going as he missed most of last season with a lower-body injury and wasn’t granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA until mid-August. While he didn’t catch any passes, Robertson did provide a sneak peek to the Georgia fans with a 72-yard touchdown run in the season opener against Austin Peay.
He should get a few more looks this week as he becomes more comfortable with the offense. Robertson is one of the top wide receiver prospects in the nation and there’s a chance this could be his only season in Athens.
D’Andre Walker (OLB): Despite losing several linebackers to the NFL after last season, the Bulldogs have already reloaded. The best of the new group is D’Andre Walker, a senior who knows how to get after the quarterback. He’ll need to provide the pressure this week as South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley is too talented to give all day to throw.
Walker didn’t record a sack against the Gamecocks last season, however he did get two hits on Bentley. This time around, he’ll look to finish the job.
Tyson Campbell (CB): The good news for Georgia is that Tyson Campbell is a five-star recruit. The bad news is he’s a true freshman. Whether Georgia likes it or not, Campbell had to be thrown into the fire immediately due to an injury to Tyrique McGhee.
McGhee is questionable for this game and even if he does suit up, won’t be able to manage a full workload. As a result, South Carolina is going to go after Campbell. Regardless of Campbell’s talent, the fact that Deandre Baker is on the opposite side of the field, leaves no doubt that Campbell will be challenged all game.
With talented receivers such as Deebo Samuel, Shi Smith and Bryan Edwards lining up for the Gamecocks, Campbell needs to step up and help contain South Carolina’s aerial attack.
