Prior to conference realignment, South Carolina and Georgia primarily matched up in week two. Although that hasn’t been the case over the past two seasons, the tradition has returned in 2018.

Both schools have yet to be tested as Georgia defeated Austin Peay 45-0 and South Carolina knocked off Coastal Carolina 49-15 in the season’s opening week.

With first place in the SEC East on the line, these two schools will play in an important early season matchup.

The Bulldogs are coming off a season in which they made it all the way to the National Championship Game before falling to Alabama. While Georgia has nearly reached the summit, South Carolina is trending in the right direction.

The Gamecocks finished last year with a 9-4 record with two of those losses coming to playoff teams Clemson and Georgia. Will Muschamp’s group will be looking for retribution for one of those losses this weekend.

Georgia would go on to win last year’s matchup 24-10. South Carolina played well, however turnovers eventually doomed the Gamecocks. If quarterback Jake Bentley can protect the ball, this could once again be a close game at the end.

Can Bentley keep it close or will Georgia overpower their fellow SEC East member? Here’s a look at what to expect when Georgia and South Carolina take the field.
