College Football Preview: UCLA Bruins vs. #7 Oklahoma Sooners
By Andrew Kim
Consistent Quarterback Play:
Whether its Wilton Speight or Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the Bruins need consistent quarterback play as they both had less than 200 yards passing with no passing touchdowns (one interception from Speight).
They need to utilize their pass catchers more like tight end Caleb Wilson or wide receiver Theo Howard. If Speight is unable to play, Thompson-Robinson can play the whole game as he can get a better feel of the offense and his receivers with more reps with the starting offense.
Containing Kyler Murray and pressuring him early and often:
Kyler Murray is a dangerous dual-threat quarterback UCLA has to contain if they want a chance to stop their potent offense. Their pass rushers Jaelan Phillips and Keisean Lucier-South both had sacks last week as they will make sure they set the edge to contain Murray.
Inside linebackers Tyree Thompson and Krys Barnes should spy on Murray to force him to beat them with his arm alone. Consistent pressure will force Murray to make incorrect reads and clumsy throws that could lead to turnovers if the defense does their job well.
