College Football Preview: UCLA Bruins vs. #7 Oklahoma Sooners
By Andrew Kim
RB Rodney Anderson: Anderson was the main force at running back for the Sooners last week, rushing for 100 yards on five carries with two rushing touchdowns. He continues to be a playmaker for this offense as he is coming off a 1,161 rushing yard,18 total touchdown season last year.
They still use a heavy running back rotation with Trey Sermon, Kennedy Brooks, T.J. Pledger, and Marcelias Sutton all getting carries. Rodney Anderson and the rest of the running back group should have another good game this week against the Bruins as they struggled to stop the run against the Cincinnati Bearcats, who rushed for 205 total rushing yards and three touchdowns on their defense.
WR Marquise Brown: Brown had an impressive game last week, catching six passes for 133 yards and a touchdown as the main receiver for the Sooners. With UCLA’s secondary, Marquise Brown may have a down game depending on if he can win against cornerback Darnay Holmes.
Oklahoma’s other receivers may get a chance to shine if they exploit matchups and the other Bruin cornerbacks. Brown should still get some looks from Kyler Murray regardless as he had a 1,095 yard receiving season last year with 57 catches and seven touchdowns.
QB Kyler Murray: Murray had nine completions on 11 pass attempts for 209 yards and two touchdowns last week as he was announced the starter over backup quarterback Austin Kendall, who suffered an injury in last weeks game. Murray should continue his impressive play this week as their dominant offense should be enough to overpower UCLA’s defense in the end.
With the weapons Oklahoma has, I would not be surprised if this was another high scoring game for the Sooners on offense.
