College Football Preview: UCLA Bruins vs. #7 Oklahoma Sooners
By Andrew Kim
The 7th ranked Sooners will take on the UCLA Bruins in Oklahoma as they will face off at 1 pm on Saturday for Week 2 of the NCAA Football season.
The Lincoln Riley-led Oklahoma Sooners had an explosive start to their 2018 college football season (1-0), beating the Florida Atlantic Owls 63-14.
Junior quarterback Kyler Murray is replacing Baker Mayfield this year, who went number one overall in the 2018 NFL Draft to the Cleveland Browns. Murray transferred from Texas A&M in 2015 as he sat out 2016 due to NCAA transfer rules and was a backup to Mayfield in 2017.
Their matchup with the Bruins gives Murray a tougher defense to face even though he will be hard to game plan against for Chip Kelly.
He will face Kelly’s UCLA Bruins (0-1), who lost to the Cincinnati Bearcats 26-17 last week.
Their original starting quarterback, senior Wilton Speight, was hurt in the middle of the game and was replaced by freshman quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Speight was the plan to replace Josh Rosen, who went to the Arizona Cardinals with the 10th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Speight transferred from Michigan in 2018 to UCLA but has dealt with injuries that have plagued his college football career as a starting quarterback. As of now, either quarterback could start against the Sooners as Speight’s status is questionable for this game.
