Clemson Players to Watch

Trevor Lawrence (QB, Freshman)

Welcome to the spotlight, Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence was as-advertised in Clemson’s week one tune-up game against Furman, completing 60 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and some eye-popping throws along the way. He did everything he could to make sure Dabo Swinney has to make the tough decision to put another player in focus — Kelly Bryant — on the sidelines the majority of the time.

Considering this game is on the road in a hostile environment, don’t be surprised if Swinney leans on the Senior Bryant over the Freshman Lawrence at times. But if Lawrence can continue to prove to be the more consistent, reliable passer, he’s going to be the one leading Clemson to perhaps another College Football Playoff appearance.

Christian Wilkins (DT) and Clelin Ferrell (DE)

In Clemson’s tune-up game against Furman, each of Wilkins and Ferrell had a sack and they’re going to have to be on top of their game as hotshot quarterback Kellen Mond looks to prove and establish himself further for Jimbo Fisher’s Aggies.

Both Wilkins and Ferrell have received first-round grades from NFL Draft analysts, and not to be outdone is big nose tackle Dexter Lawrence.

Lawrence isn’t at the same level as Wilkins and Ferrell, who look like potential top 20 picks, but these players all work really well together on the front of Clemson’s defense.

Wilkins led the Tigers week one with seven tackles and both he and Ferrell will give Texas A&M all they can handle.
