New York Jets

24. player. 30. . MLB. New York Jets. Jonathan Vilma

The New York Jets have a peppered history when it comes to trades. Some good. Some bad. Nothing overly horrific like other franchises, which is a minor victory for an otherwise tortured franchise. One they would probably like to have back though is their sending defensive captain and Pro Bowl middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma to New Orleans in 2008.

Vilma was a stud for the team in 2005, going to his first Pro Bowl. Two years later though he missed nine games with an injury. Since his contract would be coming up soon, the Jets had to make a decision. Do they let it play out or see if they can get something for him while the value was still high? They chose the latter course.

The Saints sent 3rd and 4th round picks to New York in the deal. They got one of the final pieces to a defense that helped them win the Super Bowl in 2009. The Jets got Dwight Lowery and Shonn Greene back in the deal. Not exactly what they were hoping for. Vilma reached two more Pro Bowls during his time in New Orleans.
