Traditionally, the New York Giants have been good about finding quarterbacks who fit what they do. Yet even they have had their misfires from time to time. Easily the biggest from a trade standpoint was when they tried to collect the table scraps of the Dallas Cowboys, giving up a 1st round pick and future 2nd round pick for the guy who lost the job to Roger Staubach.

In fairness, Morton had a solid run in Dallas, even getting the team to the Super Bowl. There was always something a little off with him though. He tended to struggle in big games and was not mobile in the slightest. If things weren’t the most ideal conditions, he was not the sort of quarterback who could improvise and make it work.

He spent three years in New York trying and failing miserably. Morton finished with just 29 touchdown passes and 49 interceptions. The Giants went 8-25 with him as a starter. The Cowboys took that 1st rounder they got in the trade and turned it into defensive tackle Randy White, who would become one of the best ever at his position.
