New England Patriots

. DE. New England Patriots. Chandler Jones . 21. player. 47

Bill Belichick has a system he operates by. It’s one that is hard to argue with since it’s resulted in five Super Bowl titles. Still, that cannot and should not free the man from criticism. Even he is prone to making bad decisions. Probably the one he’d like to have back is sending Chandler Jones to the Arizona Cardinals for Jonathan Cooper and a 2nd round pick.

Cooper came to nothing in his short time in New England. The 2nd rounder the Patriots traded which eventually resulted in getting guard Joe Thuney and receiver Malcolm Mitchell. In the two seasons since leaving the Patriots? Jones has 28 sacks including a league-high 17 in 2017. If you think that’s inconsequential because New England made it to the Super Bowl without him, remember this.

The Patriots defense gave up a combined 69 points in each of their appearances the past two years. In their loss to the Eagles, they failed to sack quarterback Nick Foles even once. How different might the game have gone had they chosen to keep Jones around? It’s a question they’ll have to ponder for a long time.
