Atlanta Falcons

player. 44. . QB. Atlanta Falcons. Brett Favre . 2

At first, it looked like the Atlanta Falcons did good business in 1992. They send former 2nd round pick Brett Favre, who’d wallowed on the depth chart at third string as a rookie, to the Green Bay Packers for a 1st round pick. They got more back than what they gave up. That’s football business at its best. Except shouldn’t a red flag have been raised that another team was willing to pay that price?

Yeah, it should’ve. Favre started out as a backup in Green Bay but an injury to Don Majkowski elevated him to the starting job. There he began his ascent into legend, making the Pro Bowl the first of what would be 11 times. Favre led the Packers to a 9-7 record and they wouldn’t look back, eventually going on to win the Super Bowl four years later, during which he claimed MVP honors three-straight times.

Favre would set the NFL record for most consecutive games started (298) and retired the all-time passing leader with 71,838 yards and 508 touchdowns. When he beat the Falcons in the playoffs in 1995, throwing three touchdowns in the effort, that must’ve been where it really sunk in that they’d made an enormous mistake.
