The Worst Trade For Every NFL Team In History
By Erik Lambert
Miami Dolphins
No trade ever proved that the Miami Dolphins had fallen far behind the times than when they willingly sent wide receiver Wes Welker to the New England Patriots, a division rival no less, for 2nd and 7th round picks. They should’ve known something was up from the start when the Patriots, a championship organization was pushing so hard for the deal.
Did common sense kick in? Nope. They jumped at the opportunity, thinking they’d figured out the maximum value of what Welker could do. They could’ve have been more wrong. In the Patriots offense under Josh McDaniels, he became a focal point as the best slot receiver in football. Teams didn’t know how to match up with him because of his quickness and route running skill.
Over the next six seasons, he would reach five Pro Bowls while topping 100 catches and 1,000 yards receiving five times. The fact he did it twice a year to the Dolphins during that span only made it sting even more. What they got back in return, Samson Satele and Abraham Wright weren’t remotely worth it.
