Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos. Paxton Lynch . 10. player. 45. . QB

Was it really that bad? Yes. There’s no getting around the facts. The Denver Broncos thought they were getting a future star when they traded up in the 2016 draft for Paxton Lynch. They gave up a 1st round pick and 3rd round pick to make the deal happen. This while Dak Prescott, a future Pro Bowler fell all the way to the 4th round. Why? He didn’t look like Lynch.

There’s no doubt the Memphis product was the spitting image of what NFL teams ultimately seek in the quarterback prototype. He was 6’6, mobile for his size and featured a strong arm that could strike anywhere on the field. What nobody could predict though was how he might adjust to modern defenses. He’d lived off weaklings in the AAC for years.

Sure enough, it became clear that Lynch was in over his head. He just couldn’t read coverages fast enough or deliver consistently accurate balls to challenge for the starting job. He started four games and threw 128 total passes in three seasons. The Broncos gave up two valuable draft choices for that.
