A playoff rematch features the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles take on the Atlanta Falcons in the season opener

Philadelphia Eagles fans have waited decades to see a Super Bowl banner unveiled in their city, and on Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons, they’ll finally get that opportunity.

Opening up the 2018 NFL regular season the Eagles will have quarterback Nick Foles starting once again against Atlanta while Carson Wentz recovers from knee surgery.

Foles started the NFC Division Round game against Atlanta nearly eight months ago when the Eagles won 15-10, going 23-30 with no touchdowns or interceptions.

Matt Ryan went 22-36 with a touchdown in the loss that knocked them out of the playoff hunt early.

Philadelphia returns the majority of their starters on both sides of the ball from that game, as do the Atlanta Falcons. Both added receivers with their top draft picks, Atlanta taking Calvin Ridley in the first round and Philadelphia taking Dallas Goedert in the second.

Both teams also improved on the defensive line with Philadelphia acquiring Michael Bennett and Haloti Ngata and Atlanta drafting Deadrin Senat in the third round.

Here’s how to watch the season opener in Philadelphia on Thursday night on TV or through an online stream.

Already without Wentz, the Eagles will also be without wide receiver Alshon Jeffery available after he played all of last season with a torn rotator cuff. Special team contributor Mack Hollins underwent sports hernia surgery in the offseason and will miss the season opener as well.

Jay Ajayi was a full participant in practice and should get the bulk of Philadelphia’s carries as he enters a contract season.

Atlanta listed rookie cornerback Isaiah Oliver as limited in practice with an ankle injury and guard Ben Garland did not participate in practice with a calf injury.
