#4: New Orleans Saints acquire Teddy Bridgewater from Jets
Drew Brees will be in the Hall of Fame five years after he retires. He’s a legend and an all-time great. Yet not even he can outrun Father Time. The New Orleans Saints icon will turn 40-years old next January and the team can’t afford to wait any longer in finding his eventual replacement. So it must’ve been frustrating to watch another draft go by without a move.
As it turns out, GM Mickey Loomis was playing possum. He hatched a big-time maneuver months later when he sent a 3rd round pick to the New York Jets for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. It was a bold move in every sense. Bridgewater is a 25-year old former Pro Bowler who’s finally healthy after two years recovering from a catastrophic knee injury.
He became available when it was clear Jets #3 overall pick Sam Darnold was ready to start. Suddenly the Saints have their Brees successor. Someone who won’t require much development in order to play at a high level when it’s his turn.
