Dallas Cowboys make a surprise cut with Bo Scarbrough
NFL roster cuts are being made, and the Dallas Cowboys made a surprising one early
Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Bo Scarbrough is one of over 1,000 players being handed pink slips Saturday afternoon as NFL teams cut their rosters from 90 men to 53 prior to week one of the NFL season.
Drafted 236th overall in May, Scarbrough had the Cowboys only rushing touchdown of the preseason and had the second-most carries on the team with 24. Scarbrough did deal with a hip injury late in the preseason, which likely was a major factor in whether he made the team straight out of camp.
He was beat out by Rod Smith and Ezekiel Elliott as the Cowboys trimmed their roster down to just two running backs.
Scarbrough could be practice squad option for Dallas, but there’s a chance the former Crimson Tide star is picked up on a 53-man roster.
Injuries limited Scarbrough at Alabama, but he rushed for 20 touchdowns in three seasons with 1,512 yards on the ground. He felt like a steal, in my opinion, for the Cowboys late in the seventh round and the ideal third running back for Dallas.
Given Elliott’s issues off the field, it’s surprising the Cowboys only kept two running backs on the initial 53-man roster. As other teams make their cuts, it’s highly possible Dallas adds another back to the room.
New England released Mike Gillislee, which could be an option for Dallas if they want a veteran back, and Ryan Hewitt was released by Cincinnati.
