IN:  John Timu (ILB)

He’s just not the athlete one must be for the modern NFL, but John Timu would’ve been right at home in the 1970s. His instinct, downhill ability and sound tackling have continued to show up for the Bears as a primary reserve. They saw more of that this preseason. Even as the depth at the position has improved, it’s difficult to justify cutting him given what he can still offer to the team. Don’t forget he’s also an experienced special teams stalwart.

OUT:  Deiondre Hall (S)

It’s a real shame about Hall. He has looked like he has promise since being drafted a few years ago but for one reason or another hasn’t been able to turn the corner. He switched to safety last year and has made steady progress but he picked a bad time to get suspended for violating NFL policy. Not only that but he had a couple ugly plays in the finale against Buffalo that won’t reflect well on him. Odds he’s not going to make it with DeAndre Houston-Carson and Deon Bush looking better.
