NFL Draft: Every team’s biggest first round bust of last ten years
It’s sad to say but the Chicago Bears have a number of candidates worthy of being the biggest draft bust of the past 10 years. That’s the primary reason they haven’t had a winning season since 2012. Chris Williams was a flop from the start. He required back surgery for two different ailments as a rookie and never lived up to his draft billing. Of course, most people might go to wide receiver Kevin White who’s been haunted by injuries his first three years, playing in just five games.
Yet the biggest disappointment has to be Gabe Carimi. The “Bear Jew” as he was nicknamed was a rough and tough tackle from Wisconsin. He seemed like a slam dunk. Maybe not a star but a 10-year starter easy when the Bears took him 29th overall in 2011. That dream last two games. In a loss to New Orleans the second week of his rookie season, he dislocated his kneecap and was lost for the year. The extent of the injury was severe and he was never the same.
He was traded after just two seasons to Tampa Bay and lasted four total in the NFL.
What makes this pick hurt even more is that Muhammad Wilkerson and Cameron Heyward, two future Pro Bowlers, were selected in the two picks directly following his.
