Greg Robinson. . team. 51. . 2014, 2nd overall.

He was taken in the same draft class as arguably the best player on the Los Angeles Rams currently, defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Donald went 13th to the Rams. With their second overall pick, the Rams decided to make Greg Robinson their next cornerstone left tackle, following in the footsteps of former Ram great Orlando Pace. Woof.

Here are the offensive tackles that went after Robinson in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft: Atlanta’s Jake Matthews, Tennessee’s Taylor Lewan, and Dallas’s Zach Martin (who was moved to guard). In other words, the Rams whiffed and whiffed hard on Robinson, the former Auburn product.

Three seasons of ineffectiveness with the Rams were the result of constant penalties, lackluster development, and weight issues. Over the course of those three seasons with the Rams, Robinson entered roles at left tackle, right tackle, guard, and eventually, the bench.

The Rams decided enough was enough and traded the 330-pound tackle to the Lions for a sixth round pick in June of 2017. That’s right. Before Robinson even turned 25 years of age, the once #2 overall selection just three years prior was dealt for a draft pick that turned out to be the property of the Atlanta Falcons once the selection finally came around. Robinson was only in Detroit for one season and now finds himself on his third team in just four seasons.
