College Football: Dark-Horse Heisman Candidates
Missouri QB Drew Lock
He may not be on the tongues of many college football analysts early on but senior quarterback Drew Lock has plenty of talent in that arm of his.
In the last two seasons, Lock has thrown for 7,333 yards and 67 touchdowns quietly as the Tigers have been battling just to make bowl contention.
Against prime competition the past two seasons as a starter, Lock has produced fairly well. Facing SEC champion Georgia last year, he posted 253 yards and four touchdowns. Last year against Arkansas we saw Lock torch the Razorbacks defense for 448 yards and five touchdowns.
The only thing that looms significantly in Lock’s path to the Heisman trophy is the team around him. Can the Tigers be a team that rises above mediocrity? Be mindful that the Tigers were first in the SEC (14th nationally) in scoring offense, second in the SEC (14th nationally) in passing yards per game and first in the SEC (eighth nationally) in total offense.
If, and I mean if, the Tigers somehow win possibly eight or nine games this season, keep Lock’s name in mind. A longshot but a possible one.
