Dallas Cowboys

Jackson State. Jimmy Smith . 9. player. 123. . WR

The Dallas Cowboys are never going to escape how big of a blunder they made when they chose to waive wide receiver Jimmy Smith because he refused to take a pay cut in 1994. He’d spent three years as a backup at that point. Dallas felt they didn’t need him, so they let him go. The great irony is the next year they lost prized #2 receiver Alvin Harper to free agency. Smith would’ve been there ready to take his place alongside Michael Irvin.

Instead he got scooped up by the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars. They quickly elevated him into the starting lineup on offense and he went on to post seven-straight seasons over 1,000 yards receiving. This included five Pro Bowl appearances along the way. By the time he retired, his numbers actually surpassed Irvin in both yards and touchdowns.
