Baltimore Ravens

Derek Anderson . 3. player. 26. . QB. Oregon State

Even the mighty Ozzie Newsome isn’t perfect. He can make mistakes too. Or rather he can let his coaching staff make said mistakes. Newsome didn’t know it at the time, but he was onto to something when he grabbed Derek Anderson out of Oregon State in the 6th round during the 2005 draft. Head coach Brian Billick just never saw it, and it ended up costing him his job.

Anderson was cut as a rookie and scooped up by the division rival Cleveland Browns. He eventually worked his way into the starting job and ended up going to the Pro Bowl in 2007. The icing on the cake was he defeated his former team twice that year. It was a crucial element to Baltimore finishing 5-11 and resulting in Billick’s firing. Anderson never equaled that year but he’s been a top-notch backup ever since.
