Defensive end:  Jonathan Bullard vs. Roy Robertson-Harris

The Bears showed their high expectations for the defensive end position when they allowed veteran Mitch Unrein to leave as a free agent. Akiem Hicks is already fixed at one spot. That left the other wide open for a competition. The two leading men in the fight for it are Jonathan Bullard, the Bears 3rd round pick from 2016, and Roy Robertson-Harris who was an undrafted signing for them that same year.

Leader:  Robertson-Harris

Bullard continues to produce his flash moments, showing burst off the snap and a knack for shooting gaps into the backfield. It’s Robertson-Harris though that has taken a major step forward. He currently leaders all players in the preseason this year with 3.5 sacks. He has a sack in every game he’s played up to this point. His imposing size, length, power, and quickness makes it difficult for tackles and guards handle. Unless Bullard can deliver a counter performance, it’s Robertson-Harris’ job to lose.
