Obi Melifonwu, S

The Raiders’ 2017 second-round pick out of UConn made just five appearances in the 2017 season before being shut down and placed on injured reserve.

Buried on the depth chart heading into his second season, Melifonwu is again dealing with an injury and the Raiders are sort of left in the dark over it.

There’s fear that his injury this season is related to the hip injury he suffered through last year.

If that’s the case, the Raiders may have a chance to shut him down and keep him on IR to get another look at him next year.

The key is going to be getting him healthy at some point or another. The Raiders, however, can’t really afford to keep other players off the roster and hope Melifonwu puts it together. They really have no sample on him yet they can evaluate.

He’s got to find a way to get healthy and get on the field especially with a new coaching staff in place.
