Nathan Shepherd, DL

The New York Jets are making no secret about it — Nathan Shepherd is going to be a starter this season.

The team’s official depth chart lists him as such, and he’s come a long way since he was at Fort Hays State just nine months ago.

Shepherd was invited to the 2018 Senior Bowl where he had everyone talking before suffering an injury that prevented him from participating in the remainder of the week of drills and scrimmaging.

That didn’t ultimately matter, as teams found a way to scrounge up some Fort Hays State tape, and Shepherd went from a possible fun day three sleeper player with all the ‘traits’ you want in a defensive lineman to a highly valued third-round pick of the Jets.

He’s a 24-year old rookie, which isn’t a big deal because it looks like he’s going to make a huge impact.

The Jets let go of Muhammad Wilkerson this offseason, and Shepherd is stepping right into his role on the other side of the field from Leonard Williams.

Shepherd looks like a star in the making and it isn’t likely to take long.
