The Carolina Panthers haven’t done the best job of supplementing their defensive front with fresh bodies of late, particularly on the edges. They’re still reliant on Julius Peppers who is approaching 40-years old and Mario Addison who is into his 30s now. Nobody young has stepped up as of yet and they can’t be expected to get much from those two beyond 2018. That’s why they go for Zach Allen here. He might not be the athlete former teammate Harold Landry was, but he’s quicker than he gets credit for and pairs that with impressive strength and a high motor that enables him to disrupt plays in the backfield.
