The Chargers run defense was a major weakness in 2017. They took a step towards fixing it by drafting Derwin James this past April. That should help but they still lack a reliable presence on the interior of the defensive line. Somebody who can demand extra attention from blockers, clog up lanes and make life easier for the linebackers. Derrick Brown showed the skills for such a responsibility at Auburn. He’s big enough to hold his group in the run game but flashed the sort of burst and quickness needed to be an interior pass rusher in that up-the-field attacking front under Gus Bradley.
