Roster spots will be hard to come by for the Washington Redskins as the competition heats up in preseason action. Who will emerge?

Seasoned veterans and fresh-faced rookies alike are all battling for the last few spots on a loaded Washington Redskins roster.

The NFL threw some rule changes at players, coaches, and fans this year. Some of the rule changes will take some time to digest but the changes made to the timeframe for roster cut downs will have an immediate impact.

The effects of giving some of the youngsters a few extra weeks to impress the coaches have the potential to be life changing for some of the rookies.

Being given more time to get comfortable with the playbook and with the way teams do certain things is all but guaranteed to make every team’s final roster look different if only by a single name.

On the flip side, guys that thought they had a roster spot locked up have to fight off the hungry late rounders and undrafted rookie free agents for another couple of weeks. A lot can happen on the practice field and in preseason games over these next two weeks.

Prior to this year some of the cuts would have already been made and a lot of rookies would have made their way back into the real world with the rest of us.

But, instead of punching a clock at the local rock quarry with the Fred Flintstones of the world these guys get a little more time, and a few more chances, to catch the coaches eyes and land that dream job of all dream jobs — an NFL player.

The extended audition afforded these former collegiate stars is sure to have many teams examining their respective roster bubbles like never before. There are some pretty intense battles being waged all across the country as teams size up their final 53 employees.

The Washington Redskins have some superheated contests that are assuredly surprising fans, coaches, and maybe even the players themselves.

Every team has its share of players whose place on the roster is essentially carved in granite. But, with two weeks to go there are some positions that are totally up for grabs.

The Redskins’ five most hotly contested roster spots include some names that should surprise everyone.
