NFL Power Ranking Preseason Edition: NFC only gets better
Sam Darnold has a legitimate chance to be the New York Jets starting quarterback this entire season. He looked fantastic in the preseason, going through his reads, stepping up in the pocket, and making some strong red zone throws.
One of the Jets biggest problems this year will be “who catches all these great throws?” Jermaine Kearse is the only receiver I trust on the Jets right now with Terrelle Pryor and Robby Anderson each having their own issues this offseason. I’m surprised the Jets didn’t use a draft pick on a receiver/tight end or an offensive lineman, but considering the number of picks they had after trading up for Darnold, I’ll give them a pass.
New York could get something valuable for Teddy Bridgewater on the trade market after picking him up this offseason.
On defense the Jets have some good young pieces after drafting Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye last year. Picking up Avery Williamson and Trumaine Johnson were major moves that haven’t gotten enough attention either.
We’ll see how New York does up front and with their pass rush with Wilkerson gone and Nathan Shepard plugging the interior of the line.
New York could surprise this year if Darnold plays as well as he did in the preseason.
