NFL Power Ranking Preseason Edition: NFC only gets better
Dallas will go as far as Ezekiel Elliott can carry them. The Cowboys went 6-4 in games Elliott played in last year and they’re 13-2 in Elliott’s career when he scores a rushing touchdown.
Despite missing six games and carrying the weight of a looming suspension through most of the season Elliott nearly rushed for 1,000 yards after leading the league with over 1,600 two years ago.
Dak Prescott has to continue to prove he can be the guy at quarterback after winning four of the last five games last year. His contract situation will be looming after this season as the former fourth-round pick looks to get his big contract. Luckily he’s playing behind one of the best offensive lines in football that got even better with the addition of Connor Williams in the draft.
Dallas did lose their top two receivers (Dez Bryant and Jason Witten) this offseason, and they replaced them with average NFL talent at best. Allen Hurns will look to rebound and rookie Michael Gallup could be a sneaky-good pick from the middle of the draft.
The defense has a lot of young talent fans are waiting to see breakout, including last year’s first round pick Taco Charlton. Jaylon Smith, Byron Jones, Charlton, Jourdan Lewis, and Chidobe Awuzie are a great young core to build around with Sean Lee leading the way.
It’s all about staying healthy and being smart off the field for Dallas.
