NFL Power Ranking Preseason Edition: NFC only gets better
Buffalo made the playoffs for the first time since 1999, but they still haven’t won a playoff game since 1995. It’s been one of the toughest stretches in professional sports, but the Bills finally have some pieces to contend in the future.
Afte trading Tyrod Taylor to Buffalo the Bills brought in veteran AJ McCarron, who’d backed up Andy Dalton for four years in Cincinnati. They then drafted Josh Allen in the first round out of Wyoming with the hope he can get them to the playoffs someday. That may not be this year, but Allen has the intangibles to win football games.
Allen could even get a chance early with McCarron suffering a hairline fracture in his collarbone.
He’ll have a pair of safety blankets with Le’Sean McCoy and Kelvin Benjamin on his side, two dynamic playmakers who can put up over 1,000 yards of offense each.
Buffalo added another playmaker in the draft, but this one will be on defense in the form of Tremaine Edmunds. One of my favorite playmakers from this year’s draft, the Virginia Tech linebacker will bring some much-needed thump to the Bills defense.
Their front is strong as well with Kyle Williams coming back and the additions of Star Loutulelei, Trent Murphy, and rookie Harrison Phillips. Buffalo’s cornerbacks are also a strength with Tre’Davious White, Vontae Davis, Phillip Gaines, and rookie Taron Johnson.
Buffalo might not make the playoffs this year with McCarron and/or Allen under center, but they’re set up nicely going forward.
