Isaiah Wynn, Offensive lineman

The New England Patriots value versatility more than probably any other team in the NFL, and when they drafted Isaiah Wynn, the thought was almost that the team could use him like a chess piece on the offensive line.

Unfortunately, this is real life, not a Madden video game.

Though Wynn was an excellent left tackle who projected well as a left guard in college, moving around and changing positions is not easy, especially if you’re dealing with some injuries.

Wynn did not play in the Patriots’ preseason opener but is practicing normally this week and is expected to play against the Eagles.

With Marcus Cannon out with an injury, the Patriots are testing Wynn out at the right tackle spot, and that could prove to be a difficult transition.

Therefore, Wynn deserves some grace, but he’s also a first-round draft pick and the Patriots are counting on him.

If he ends up as a swing tackle in year one, it’s not the end of the world, but he looked like a plug-and-play starter at Georgia and it would be a shame if he were on the sidelines for the majority of his rookie season.
