NFL Preseason: 5 rookies to watch for Friday night
Sam Darnold
The only rookie quarterback worth waiting for tonight is Sam Darnold, the third-overall pick out of USC. New York gave up three second round picks to move three spots up in the draft to get a quarterback, and it sounds like Darnold was their number one guy.
Darnold was also my number one quarterback coming out of school. Listed at 6’4 220 he’s got the prototypical size and talent of a decade-long starter. He brings no off the field issues, a cool and calm demeanor on the field, and should work well in the New York market after playing in Los Angeles.
His throws come with a tight spiral and velocity, they’re on time and they’re accurate. There isn’t too much not to like with Darnold.
New York could end up starting Darnold week one if he beats Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater this preseason. It’s one of the tougher quarterback battles this preseason and one NFL fans will be watching closely.
