NFL games are upon us and the first large batch of preseason games are tonight

After getting a small portion of NFL football during the Hall of Fame game last week, the NFL preseason rolls on with week one on Thursday night.

Here are five games to watch for on Thursday as rookies get an opportunity to shine under the lights.

Carolina Panthers vs Buffalo Bills

NFL fans get their first look at Buffalo Bills first round pick Josh Allen, a player few watched live coming out of Wyoming.

A gunslinger with one of the most impressive arms in college football history, Allen was one of the divisive prospects coming out last year. Many pointed to a career 56.2 completion percentage, while others marveled at his throws and argued the completion percentage isn’t a major issue.

Buffalo has three quarterbacks fighting for the starting job who will likely get playing time Thursday night; Allen, Nathan Peterman, and AJ McCarron. Peterman had a rough NFL debut last year and McCarron signed after backing up Andy Dalton for four years. It’s one of the more competitive quarterback battles this offseason and one to watch closely in the preseason.

Carolina will give a slight glimpse of the Norv Turner offense and how second-year back Christian McCaffrey could be used. Rookie receivers DJ Moore and Ian Thomas will be on display Cam Newton’s backup quarterbacks getting most of the workload.
